I was 3 years old when I discovered my dad’s hi-fi, earphones and Dr Hook records… and I’ve had a love affair with music ever since that day.
I was born in Klerksdorp, then moved to Cape Town, and have been living in Pretoria since 1992. I do not support any sports teams and, unlike my colleagues and the rest of Pretoria, I have no knowledge of rugby (or cricket, soccer or golf) at all. As John Miles sang: “Music was my first love...”
Before I started working at Rippel 90.5 in August 2006, I had several other jobs just to pay the bills, but I’ve always longed to work in the radio industry. Once that is in your blood, you can never look back.
Apart from being a wife and mother (the most important career there is), my whole day is filled with music. From finding, formatting and sourcing music, managing Rippel 90.5’s digital music database and snooping around CD shops for classics, to picking up my guitar at night.
My private music collection is extensive… I avidly collect older music, especially 60s to 80s, soundtracks, and old school rock. Favorites include ZZ Top, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Tom Petty, The Beatles…anything that guitarists Slash and Angus Young ever did, Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Springsteen. The talents of South Africans Mel Botes and Dan Patlansky remain astounding.
Other passions include a complete and utter addiction to good coffee, a penchant for feeding stray animals and a deep-set dream to live and work in the United States.
