I was born on the East Rand and remember my late dad playing his Slim Whitman and Freddy Quinn records on Friday nights after work, with me lying on the carpet in the dark room listening to these guys singing and thinking of myself as a vocalist.
After my school years I, by mistake, joined a band called “Take Five” as the lead vocalist. This wonderful period of my life lasted for 14 years when we, as band members, decided to spend more time with our families and so quit the band. During the years after we all quit the band, I had the opportunity of performing with artists like Lance James, the comedian Tolla Van Der Merwe, JJStephens, Pieter Wolmerans (a former member of the Nico Carstens band) and Kevin De Beer, now known as Kevin Leo who is part of “Die Drie Bestes” and other performers.
Moving to Pretoria, my wife and I got to know the Lord at the Dutch Reformed Church Moreleta Park. The well-known radio and TV presenter Elma Neethling interviewed me and I started radio presenting with her team on our church Gospel program “Deo Volente”, broadcasting from Impact Radio for a number of years.
My journey in radio presenting again continued 4 years ago by joining the NEW DAY team at Rippel 90.5FM as presenter. We as a team also present the Sunday night Gospel programs on air. To further our radio interest, we also present secular programs from time to time. My preferred style of presenting is of a practical nature to inspire and encourage people with the Good News of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
